Eleanor Roosevelt congratulated him in person when one of his paintings of rain forest loggers was added to the Smithsonian collection. \u00a0Some of his murals from that era still exist in public buildings locally.<\/p>\n<p>Both of his sisters became known for their art work as well &#8211; Lily Norling Hardwick was a founding member of Women Painters of Washington, known for her portraits of Northwest Native Americans, and Dorothy Gilbert as an illustrator and member of WPW.<\/p>\n<p>One of his artist friends, Eustace Ziegler gave him a set of carving chisels that he put away, and then pulled out later to get a job that he needed, studying and practicing their use to keep the job and then perfecting\u00a0work in a new medium. \u00a0Norling traded and collected artworks from his friends including Ziegler and others, some of which are shown here and also for sale.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>These art works by Ernest Norling and other Northwest artists\u00a0are for sale.
